Let’s Make History Together
Thankful Missionary Baptist Church was organized in the year of our Lord April 1982 with a cornerstone of faithful believers. The late Reverend B. H. Hartley, moderator of the East Florida Bethany and Pastor of Friendly Missionary Baptist Church held a council and officially organized the Church. The Church reached out and saw Reverend Nathaniel Frederick, a member of the Friendly Missionary Baptist Church, who became the first pastor of Thankful Missionary Baptist Church. The Church joined East Florida Bethany Baptist Association in 1983. In 1984, the Church purchased property and a building on Thrasher Avenue. Pastor Frederick along with the members and friends worked diligently and renovated the building for worship services.
On the second Sunday in June 1985, under the direction of the late Moderator B. H. Hartley, Reverend Nathaniel Frederick and the Church motorcade from the YMCA on Ribualt Scenic Drive to the Thrasher Avenue location. The Church dedication service was also held during that same year.
Thankful Missionary Baptist Church has grown continuously both physically and spiritually with may souls being saved. Some physical growth included the purchase of two adjoining lots and three lots in the 7900 block of Waxwing Avenue. The Church property is debt free and we are pressing forward in the name of Jesus Christ.
During Pastor Frederick’s administration many souls were gained and only three were lost by death. Three men were installed and added to the Deacon Ministry — namely, Deacon Jim Mobley, Deacon Leonard Harrison, and Deacon Arthur Richardson. Pastor Frederick served the Church well and in July 2005 the Lord called his servant home.
After much prayer, on the second Sunday in March 2006, the Lord blessed us with Reverend Ron R Scott. Under Pastor Scott’s leadership and through the work of the Holy Spirit, the Lord added souls to the Body of Christ. In the Music Ministry, a Young Adult (TMBC Chorale), children’s choir (The VIP), and Praise Dance Ministry were formed. The Church also restarted the Transportation Ministry and purchased a 2006 12-passenger van. In June of 2010, Pastor Scott resigned as Pastor of Thankful Missionary Baptist Church.
After the resignation of Pastor Scott, the Church was without a pastor for several months. Through continued fasting and praying, guest pastors came in each week and fed God’s flock.
In December of 2010, the Lord allowed Reverend Clem E. Robinson to become the Under Sheppard (God is the Sheppard) of this Body of Christ. The installation service for Pastor Robinson was held at Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church where Reverend Johnny Johnson is the Pastor. During his tenure, we are spiritually fed. New souls are being added to God’s army. We held our 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Food and Clothing Drive and the 2nd Youth Explosion. A portable was erected on the grounds. It has been renovated, dedicated, and named “The Frederick-Robinson Youth Center” in memory of our first pastor. Pastor Robinson has brought a unique style and flare to Thankful Church and for that we are grateful.
A Women’s Ministry, Visitation Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Men’s Ministry have been created. We are in the process of starting a Marriage Ministry as well as a Food and Clothing Pantry.
The Transportation Ministry Van was paid off in January 2017, so once again Thankful is debt free. Under Pastor Robinson’s leadership, Thankful held its first Annual Women’s Conference in March 2011 with great success.
The Church continues to grow spiritually. During the past year, eight souls were added by baptism and nineteen were added under Christian experience and one lost by death, Deacon Jim Mobley, a faithful servant. The Church visited Wild Adventure in Valdosta, GA as an outing to outreach favoring the Youth. The Thankful Missionary Baptist Church remained a part of East Florida Bethany Baptist Association until 2011. The Thankful Missionary Baptist Church family shared in our 1st Annual Pastor’s Appreciation Program in November 2011 in honor of Reverend Clem E. Robinson. Three brothers were installed as Deacons, nameyly James Devoe, Cindlay Innocent, and Samuel Walker. An Easter Extravaganza was added as an annual event.
In 2012, the women’s restroom was renovated. Doors were painted. In 2014, we built a picnic table and bar-b-que pit on waxwing. In Octover 2015, the Lord moved us from Thrasher Avenue to our present location 4216 Moncrief Road West. In November 2015, we had our dedication service. In 2016, one man was set aside as a Deacon, namely Abraham (BT) Washington. Also, Pastor Clem E Robinson received his Doctorate Degree in Theology and we thank the Lord for blessing us with Minister Michael Watkins, Jr. to our fellowship.
